Privacy Policy

1. Who are we?

We (Uplift Money Ltd) are an appointed representative of Dennico Limited, a credit broker authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FRN 793530). We provide an online comparison service for difference products and services. Our registered office is at Steam Mill Business Centre, Steam Mill Street, Chester, United Kingdom, CH3 5AN and our registered company number is 13159729. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office with registration number ZA880269.

 2. Why do we have this privacy policy?

The purpose of this privacy policy is to give you a clear explanation about how we use the personal information we collect from you when you use our website to find a financial product or service. It is important that you read it in full to understand the information we need to collect from you, how we will use it and how you can access, update and delete your personal information. It should be read together with our Terms and Conditions.

If you are re-directed to or click on a link that takes you to a third-party website that is not ours, we will not be responsible for how they use your personal information. You should read their privacy policy to understand how they may use your personal information. Other than the information in section 9 (“Who do we share your personal information with?”), this privacy policy only explains how we will process your personal information.

“Personal information” in this policy means any information that we collect that could identify you such as for e.g. your name, address and online identifiers like your IP address.

3. Our Service

When you ask us to search for a financial service or product, we will use the personal information you give us in the different ways described below to deliver “Our Service.”

We are a data controller in relation to the personal information you have given to us, and we store this in a UK data centre.

To enable you to use Our Service you will need to provide us with your personal information to create an account ("Your Account") including; your title, name, mobile number and email address. For your security, we will ask you to verify your mobile number by sending you a one-time passcode each time you log into Your Account. You will need to log into Your Account each time you use Our Service.

We will share the personal information you have given to us on your application form with Equifax Limited who are a credit reference agency (“CRA”). A soft search will be carried out on you to enable us to check your identity and creditworthiness (ie how likely it is that you will be able to repay the credit) so that we can assess which lender(s) may be more suitable for your financial circumstances.

Depending on the information we receive from Equifax Limited, your personal information will also be shared with Dennico Limited and may be also shared with HD Decisions Limited (an Experian business) in order to check your eligibility and pre-qualify you for the financial product or service you are looking for amongst each of their respective panel of Providers. Where this is the case, further soft searches will be carried out on you by HD Decisions and by each of the Providers on their panels as part of their eligibility process.

The results of your search and the details of any offers that you are eligible for will be presented to you and stored in Your Account. This information will remain in Your Account for up to 30 days depending upon the Provider who has made it.

Each of Equifax Limited, HD Decisions – an Experian business and their respective panel of Providers are separate data controllers when they receive this information, and they may process it for their legitimate interests in deciding whether or not they can provide you with the financial service or product you are looking for.

If you decide to proceed with any offers, you will be redirected to the Provider’s website to complete your application. They will also carry out their own identification and validation checks including a full credit check, (also known as a "hard" search). This will be visible on your credit file to any other lender in the future.

If any of our Providers are unable to help, you may be presented with an alternative option to continue your search with another one of our partners. If you choose to proceed, we will share your personal information with Our Partner so that they can assess whether or not they can help you.

Using the information you provided to us, we will stay in contact with you about your enquiry, and (unless you have asked us not to), we will also send you details about any of our other similar products and services.

4. Ways you can contact us

You can contact us at any time by using one of the methods listed below, if you wish to know more about how we use and store your personal information:

Uplift Money Ltd,
The Steam Mill Business Centre,
Steam Mill Street,
Chester,
CH3 5AN

5. How do we collect your personal information?

This is information specific to you such as, but not exclusively, your name, address, telephone number, date of birth, financial account information, online identifiers (i.e. IP address).

We collect your personal information in the following ways:

  • when you complete an online form on one of our websites
  • when you contact us by email or any other means
  • when you interact with us using social media such as Twitter, Facebook or Messenger etc
  • via automated technologies such as Cookies. Please see our Cookie Policy for further details
  • technical data about your equipment, browsing actions and patterns

6. What personal information do we collect?

To enable us to provide Our Service, we need to collect the following information:

  • Identity information includes your first and last name, date of birth
  • Contact information includes your email address and mobile telephone number
  • Marketing and communications information includes your preferences in receiving marketing information about our similar products and services
  • Employment information includes your employment status
  • General information includes your residential status, your marital status, and the number of dependants you may have
  • Financial information includes monthly mortgage/rent repayments and annual income
  • CRA information includes information about your financial status and eligibility for the products and services we offer
  • Technical information includes your internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer (or device) to the internet; your browser; time zone setting; your operating system and platform; the source of your enquiry (for example Google, Facebook, Bing etc) and the device you are using. We also collect information about your visit to our website including the full Uniform Resource Locators (URL) clickstream to, through and from our website (including the date and time); page response times, download errors; length of visits to certain pages; page interaction information (such as scrolling; clicks and mouse-overs); methods used to browse away from the page, and, if you linked to our website from a search engine, the address of that search engine and the search term you used

Please note: it is your responsibility to check and ensure that any information you provide is correct, complete and accurate. If you fail to provide your personal information where requested, we will not be able to provide you with Our Service.

7. How do we use your personal information?

7.1 Personalisation

We analyse and profile your personal information in order to customize Our Service and the information we may send to you (providing you have not objected) about our similar products and services (providing you have not objected).

For example, we will use your personal information to:

  • Carry out eligibility checks (see section 6.2)
  • Determine the type of marketing we present to you and how, (for example on social media), and (providing you have consented), that we send to you about our other products and services.

7.2 Eligibility Checking

We provide an online comparison and eligibility checking service to help find you offers for loans. We sort these offers based on our 'best match' algorithm which considers several factors including the chance of approval and the rate being offered. If you choose to take out a loan via our website, the chosen lender will pay us commission, however, this does not influence the quotes that we present to you, nor the order in which they are ranked.

To check your eligibility for a loan, we use CRA information and automated technology to select those Providers who meet your requirements and criteria, for example, if we know a Provider does not offer loans greater than £5,000, we will not add them to the panel. We then share your personal information with the selected Providers who will carry out a soft search on you. Providers use your credit score and/or credit report data to help them decide whether they would accept your application for a loan. They will then notify us whether they will accept your application, the chance of approval and the real interest rate that they can offer you. If a Provider does not offer a real interest rate, you may be presented with a quote based on a representative APR.

A soft search will leave a ‘footprint’ on your credit file which will either be in our name or the lender or broker who carried it out.  Only you will be able to see this, and it will not impact your credit score.

7.3 Staying in contact

7.3.1 Service messages

We will send you servicing messages by email or text if we are under a legal obligation to contact you, or if your use of Our Service would be disadvantaged if you did not receive it. An example of a servicing communication is the email that we will send to you confirming any quotes you have generated through our website, along with expiry reminders. Communicating with you in this way will not include any marketing communications.

7.3.2 Marketing

We will only send you marketing communications if you have not objected to receiving information from us about our similar products and services. This is known as the “soft opt-in” (see below). Any such contact may be by email, text message, push notifications, social media or other electronic means. We will not send unsolicited marketing communications to you about any other types of products or services.

The soft opt-in is an exception to the general requirement to obtain consent before sending direct marketing to you by electronic means (such as email or text message for example) and applies where you have previously engaged with us (for example by submitting your contact details on our website to make an enquiry about Our Service), and we are marketing our similar products and services. Under the ‘soft opt-in’, we will assume you still want to hear about our other related products and services until you opt out or unsubscribe. For most customers, this is beneficial as it allows us to tell you about our other similar products services that we think would be useful to you alongside the specific one you originally expressed an interest in.

Third-party marketing: we will not share your personal information with any other company for their marketing purposes.

7.4. Correspondence, surveys, competitions and prize draws

If you contact us using our contact form, we’ll keep a record of that correspondence.

We may contact you occasionally to see if you would like to take part in a survey, competition or prize draw. If we do this, we will only use any personal information you provide in response in accordance with this privacy policy.

We take your feedback very seriously and use surveys to help us improve our services.

7.5. Website analytics

We use technical information to measure and analyse traffic to our website. It allows us to analyse the behaviour and trends to help us further improve our services and our customers’ experience.

This is statistical information about our users’ browsing actions and patterns and does not identify anyone.

7.6. To meet legal or regulatory requirements

We may process your personal information without your knowledge or consent, in compliance with data protection legislation, where this is required or permitted by law.

7.7. Research and development

We are constantly looking to improve Our Service for our customers by analysing data. For example, we may use your personal information alongside your financial information and behavioural data to spot trends and identify new features or products that would be of interest or helpful to our customers.

.

9. Who do we share your personal information with?

When you use Our Service, your personal information will be shared with the following third parties or categories of third party:

  • TxtLocal Ltd: to verify your mobile number by sending you an SMS with a passcode that you must enter on the website when asked to do so. As a result of this verification, Your Account will be created. You will be required to verify your mobile number each time you attempt to log into Your Account. This is in place to increase security of our website and mitigate fraud.
  • Equifax Limited: to check your identity and creditworthiness by carrying out a soft search on you so that we can assess which Provider(s) may be most suitable for your financial circumstances. As a result of this soft search, Equifax will record a footprint on your credit file that we have requested. This search footprint will be visible only to you and will not affect your credit score.
  • For more information about how Equifax may use your personal information, you can read the Credit Reference Agency Information Notice here, or you can ask Equifax for a copy. You can also read Equifax’s privacy policy here: https://www.equifax.co.uk/ein.html.
  • Our partners: to help you find an alternative product or service where our Providers are initially unable to offer you the product you were originally looking for. Our partners comprise financial services firms who (where required), are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority to provide secured loans, credit broking, consumer credit lenders, credit information services and can offer a range of alternative financial products and services including, for example, credit rebuilding tools.
  • HD Decisions Limited (an Experian business) and their panel of Providers: to check your eligibility and where possible, pre-qualify you for a loan. You can read HD Decision’s terms and conditions here;
  • Other companies who enable us to provide Our Service or who provide services to us, for example IT Service Providers (who provide for e.g. technology platforms or other IT services including data storage), and communication providers (who provide for e.g. email and text services for customer contact and marketing purposes)
  • Advertising networks and social media companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube so that we can present you with relevant advertisements

These third parties help us to provide Our Services. In order that they can do this, we may need to let them process your personal information. We will make sure that they keep the information secure and in accordance with our instructions, the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 ("GDPR") and other UK privacy legislation.

We’ll also share your personal information when we have your consent, or where we are obliged to do so for a legal or regulatory reason, for e.g. to prevent or detect crime, for compliance monitoring or to enforce or apply our Terms & Conditions and other agreements.

Finally, we may also share your personal information with any third parties to whom we may choose to sell, transfer, or merge parts of our business or our assets. Alternatively, we may seek to acquire other businesses or merge with them. If a change happens to our business, then the new owners may use your personal information in the same way as set out in this privacy policy.

10. How long will we keep your personal information?

Unless we are required by law to keep your personal information for a different period of time, we will keep it for no longer than 2 years from the date you last logged into Your Account, or alternatively until you ask us to delete it.

Please note that if you ask us to delete your personal information it may remain on our backup systems for legal or other regulatory reasons.

11. Automated Decision Making

An automated decision is made by a computer or system to evaluate certain personal aspects relating to an individual to make a decision. We do not make automated decisions about you; however, our Providers may do this when we share your personal information with them so that they can make an assessment of your eligibility for your loan product.

(Note: a 'soft search' is a search conducted by a credit broker or a lender with a credit reference agency such as Experian, Equifax or TransUnion. This helps them to determine whether or not they are able to provide the product or service. Unlike a 'hard' credit search, a soft search is recorded on your credit file but only you can see it, rather than any other finance provider. A 'soft search' does not impact your credit rating.

As a result, you have the right to ask our Providers that they do not make a final decision based solely on automated means. You can also object to the automated decision and ask that a person reviews it. To exercise this right, you will need to contact the Provider directly.

12. Is your personal information transferred outside the European Economic Area ("EAA")?

Although we do not routinely transfer personal information outside the EEA, we may sometimes need to do this where any of our Providers or third-party suppliers are either based outside the EEA, or where they use data processors based outside the EEA.  Where this is the case, we’ll make sure that they agree to: keep your personal information secure; apply the same levels of protection as we are required to apply to information held in the EEA and to use it only for the purpose of providing Our Service. One of the ways we might do this is by putting in place appropriate safeguards and protections as stated under UK law, for example using a data-transfer agreement incorporating certain standard model protection clauses.

13. Data security

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed.  In addition, we limit access to your personal information to those employees, agents, contractors and other third parties who have a business need to know. They will only process your personal information on our instructions, and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We have procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

14. Cookies

We have implemented and use Google Display Network (GDN) Impression Reporting, Demographics and Interest Reporting, Remarketing with Analytics and Segments.

We use these services to help us improve our site and our advertising, including who sees the adverts and the content within them.  We and other third parties, such as Google, use first party and third-party cookies to help us show relevant adverts to you. Due to these cookies, you may see adverts on other websites promoting Uplift Money.  More information about cookies and how they are used can be found in our cookie policy.

Whilst we cannot control adverts you may see on other websites, you are free to opt-out of or change your settings regarding ad personalisation at any time, by going to your Google Ads Preferences Manager.

15. Your legal rights

  • Right to Object - because you have asked us to help you find a financial product or service, we need to process the personal information you give us to enable us to find the best product or service available amongst our Providers. You can object to this processing (including any profiling and/or direct marketing that we carry out) at any time by contacting us as detailed in Ways to contact us in section 4. We will action any request you make promptly, although this will mean that we will not be able to help you find the financial product or service that you asked us to search for.
  • Right of Access – you can ask us whether we hold your personal information and if so you can access it by contacting us as detailed in section 4.
  • Right to Erasure – if it is no longer necessary for us to hold your personal information, bearing in mind the reason why you provided it to us, you can ask us to delete it. If you ask us to do this, we’ll complete your request as soon as possible although this will mean that we will not be able to help you find the financial product or service that you asked us to search for
  • Right to Rectification - if we hold inaccurate personal information, you can ask us to correct it and we’ll action your request promptly
  • Right to restrict our use of your information - you can ask us to restrict our processing of your personal information if you think, for example, that the personal information you gave us is inaccurate
  • Right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) – we’ll try to resolve any complaint that you may have in relation to data protection issues. If you are not happy with our final response you have the right to have your complaint dealt with by the ICO. See section 16 - “Complaints and contact details of our data protection officer.”

16. Complaints and contact details for our data protection officer

We want you to be confident that we are handling your personal information responsibly and in line with good practice. If you are concerned that we are not doing this, you should contact us immediately. We will treat your concern seriously and work with you to try and resolve it.

17. Changes to this policy

Any changes we may make to our privacy policy in the future will be posted on this page. When a change is made, we will present the updated policy at the point in which you log into your account where you will be asked to agree to our updated policies.

However, if any significant change that we make affects the way that we are able to use your personal information (meaning that it would be unlawful for us to continue to use it), then we will do our best to communicate this to you.
